Thursday, May 26, 2022 - This is a map of the New Hampshire "52 With A View":
It turns out that I have climbed 13 of them so far. Mount Robert and Mount Shaw are in the lower-right, just north of Lake Winnipesaukee.
Today I'm going to tackle Mount Shaw - 8.14 miles in 3-and-1/2 hours:
Nice drive today - down into Boston, then up 93, over to the hike, then continuing over to 16 south back to 95, and home:
So, you might be sking yourself - Dennis, it has been 2 weeks since your last hike up - what did you do LAST WEEK?
Well, that is a good question. I was going to hike Mount Shaw, but it turns out that I MISSED THE "Farawar Mtn Connector", continued up "Cold Spring Trail", the "Faraway Mtn Trail" until I got up to the "High Ridge Trail", which runs along the High Ridge from Mount Roberts to Mount Shaw (MY YELLOW HIKE LAST WEEK):
Going along "High Ridge Trail", I just ran out of time before getting to Mount Shaw. Which sets us up for today's hike (in RED).
Overcast, but a nice day up here at a little past 11 AM:
I made the correct turn at the "Farawar Mtn Connector":
and the correct turn for the "Oak Ridge Cutoff":
Dense forest (no views), and I made "High Ridge Trail" just after noon (one hour = good time):
Nice views of a Swamp Area:
and then up the hill to Mount Shaw:
There are plenty of signs to help people:
I reached the summit around 1 PM:
The view-to-the-north merits its inclusion on the 52-With-A-View list:
PB&J sandwich on the summit, then fun hike back down. I took a side-trail through the woods ("Upper Bridle Path" and "Lower Bridle Path"):
and popped out of the woods, near my car, at 2:30
Back down to Boston to pick up Caroline returning from her trip to Europe. Dropped her off in Beverly, then home for dinner. Thank You God for this Great "52 With A View" Day!
For my listening pleasure today:
various artists - Smooth Grooves: Cruisin' Classics, 2007
various artists - This Is Mix Music Volume 2, 1999
various artists - Ultimate Dance Party 2000, 2000
This was not any good, and will be deleted from my iPod.
Driving Home it was time for The Boss - Bruce Springsteen Born In The U.S.A., 1984
Well, doesn't that SOUND GREAT, driving on a sunny day with all the windows rolled down!
Damien Rice - O, 2008
Only the last track - 16-minute "Eslimo" - is worth keeping.
Dave Matthews Band - Busted Stuff, 2002
"Grey Street" is maybe my favorite song by DMB.
