52 With A View: Mount Cube - South Peak

Thursday, June 22, 2023 - This is a zoomed-in map of the New Hampshire "52 With A View" - I have climbed 20 of them so far. I'll be doing Mount Cube - South Peak today:

Trailhead is 148 miles away, 2:31

I started at my Breakfast-in-Boston, then up 93, getting on 89 North in Concord, New Hampshire. Stopped for gas, and hopped on 91 North in White River Junction, Vermont. I grabbed 4 Post Offices in Vermont, and 2 in New Hampshire. Saw an awesome waterfall in Bradford, Vermont:
And crossed the Connecticut River:
At the trailhead just after noon:
I ate my sandwich and read the descriptions.

Starting at 12:30, the first 1/10 mile is up the road:
and then its up-into-the-woods:

I think it must be because it is the first-hike-of-the-season, but after a while I had to pull out my phone, because OF COURSE I have gone at least ONE MILE! I had only gone 0.75 miles.

At the REAL one mile mark, I took photos looking forward and back:

Ten minutes later there is a nice break-out view to the left:

You go up some ledges:

I reached The Summit at 1:47

That was the "South Peak" (with views to the south-and-west). To get to the "North Peak" (with views to the north-and-east), you actually encounter the Appalachian Trail for a bit:

I hit "North Peak" at 2:06, with its nice view of Upper Baker Pond:

Coming off the "North Peak", it is nice to have cairns to help navigate:

Nice view coming back down:

I finished at 3:00 PM, which is Just Right for a 5-mile hike (2-and-1/2 hours). Unfortunately I had "System Upgrade" notifications going on on my iPhone, so MapMyWalk got a little funky at about the 3-and-1/2-mile-mark:

PERFECT drive home - 6:00 PM arrival, on the dot! - Thank You God for this wonderful "52 With A View" Day!

And then it was off to the Manchester Yacht Club for barbecue as the sun went down:

For my listening pleasure today was A LOT of Diana Krall and Led Zeppelin
