Thursday, May 1, 2025 - This is a zoomed-in map of the New Hampshire "52 With A View" - I thought that I had 18 to go, but I actually did Imp Face (orange circle) back on June 16, 2016 (read that blog here). So I really have 17 to go (yellow). I'll do Square Ledge (Albany) (red circle) today:
I drove 2-and-1/2 hours north from my Breakfast-in-Boston:
and got to "Oliverian Brook Trail" parking at 11:30 (one other car there):
The plan was to hike 1.9 miles up "Oliverian Brook Trail", then 1.7 miles on "Passaconaway Cutoff", then east 1.0 miles on "Square Ledge Trail", then 0.5 miles on "Square Ledge Branch Trail", then back down 3.3 miles on "Oliverian Brook Trail" (8.4 miles total):
I was on The Trail at 11:41
The view at 1 mile:
As you can imagine, "Oliverian Brook Trail" goes up alongside Oliverian Brook:
At 12:30 I was at the intersection with "Passaconaway Cutoff":
Which had a bit more vertical to it:
I caught up to the guy who had the other car in the parking lot. We exchanged pleasantries, and I kept going up (his car was gone when I got back, so I hope he had a good hike). At 1:26 i hit "Square Ledge Trail", which went off-and-up to the left:
At 1:46 I climbed on a big rock formation (no sign) which had some nice views:
But I was hoping for something a little more "official". I climbed down-and-around and took my selfie:
One minute later, that is The Trail down:
I ate my peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich as I scrambled down. I'm glad I did this loop counter-clockwise - it would have been pretty aggressive climbing up the way I went down. A Good Way to Start The Year - 8.20 miles in 4 hours 1 minute:
What a GOOD Day! Thank You God for this wonderful "52 With A View" day!
For my listening pleasure today - music from my iPod:
I looked at "albums I had not heard in a LONG TIME, and I was very happy to see on the list: Pat Metheny Group - Travels (live) (2 cds), 1983 live double album, last heard 2/26/2017 - This album won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance:
various artists - Woodstock: Music from the Original Soundtrack and More, recorded 1969, released 1970 triple album, last heard 9/21/2016 - wonderful listening to Canned Heat sing "Going Up the Country" as I'm driving up 93 to go hiking in the White Mountains:
Santana - Abraxas, 1970 second album, last heard 7/24/2024 - excellent album:
Joe Jackson - Summer in the City: Live in New York, 2000 live album, last heard 3/06/2017 - I really like Joe Jackson:
various artists - Summer Of Love: The Hits Of 1967 [Disc 2], released 2007, last heard 6/05/2017 - I am fond of the seven songs I ripped:
The Electric Prunes - I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)
The Youngbloods - Get Together
Blues Magoos - (We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet
The Blues Project - Wake Me, Shake Me
Big Brother & The Holding Company - Down On Me (vocals – Janis Joplin)
Vanilla Fudge - You Keep Me Hangin' On
