Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024 - It is still Beautiful Hiking Weather here in New England, so I'm going "far north" and bag a "Terrifying 25" up in Franconia Notch: "Hi-Cannon Trail".
On the map:
Yellow = "Required", have not climbed
Blue = "Optional", have not climbed
Green = "Have Climbed"
I have climbed 15 of them:
I'll be going up "Lonesome Lake Trail" for 0.4 miles, then take a right up "Hi-Cannon Trail for 2.0 miles (0.8 + 1.2), then take a left down "Kinsman Ridge Trail" for 0.4 miles, then left down "Lonesome Lake Trail" for 2.3 miles back to the parking lot (0.9 + 0.2 + 0.8 + 0.4):
The weather is supposed to be great (this time of the year I don't mind "cloudy"):
From my Breakfast-in-Boston, I was across from the parking lot at 11:20
I'm glad I'm not hitting any PEAKS today!
I did the loop-de-loop to get over to the parking lot, and started my hike at 11:40
Pretty Nice Trail:
10 minutes later I was at the turn to begin "Hi-Cannon Trail":
Let's just say that it IS NOT as easy-going as "Lonesome Lake Trail":
This is not "THE LADDER" which puts this trail on the "Terrifying 25" list, but I thought it deserved its own selfie:
At 12:49 I reached "The Ladder" - looks stable enough:
Right after that I got some GREAT VIEWS - the Franconia Notch Parkway and Lonesome Lake:
Pretty cool trail up here in the-forest-and-the-fog:
At 1;20 I finished "Hi-Cannon Trail" with its intersection with "Kinsman Ridge Trail":
All this moss means this is a VERY WET environment:
The 0.4-mile-trail going down IS VERY DANGEROUS and must be taken slowly. I passed a group of kids and their chaperones, and saw some nice views, with the sun trying to break through:
It took me over 20 minutes to get down to the intersection with "Lonesome Lake Trail":
There are nice boardwalks as you near "Lonesome Lake":
Lonesome Lake is BEAUTIFUL:
"Lonesome Lake Trail" continues down through the woods:
I finished a little before 3 PM, hiking 4.43 miles in 3 hours 11 minutes:
On Google Earth I can map today's hike (yellow) and the "Cannon Mountain hike" I did August 18, 2014 as part of my New Hampshire 4000 footers (read that blog here):
I headed back Home in time for dinner. Thank You God for this wonderful ADVENTURE DAY!
