My 15th (Middle Tripyramid) and 16th (North Tripyramid) 4,000 footers!

Keeping in the "Southern Group", June's Mount Tecumseh and July's Mount Osceola, East Osceola and Mount Whiteface are in green, while August's Mount Passaconaway is in the far-right green square. Today's Middle Tripyramid and North Tripyramid are in the red circle:

Because the trails from Waterville Valley are closed-for-repairs during the week, I had to go up-and-around to come in from the northeast. Up 93 to exit 32, then 20 miles east on the Kancamagus Highway:

Using Map My Walk, I went up the Sabbaday Brook Trail (4.9 miles) to the Mt Tripyramid Trail. I took a left (headed south) and went through Middle Tripyramid on my way to South Peak (not "officially" a 4000 footer, but it was along the ridge - I LOVE walking the ridges!!). Then backtracked 0.6 miles to Middle Tripyramid, then 0.3 to the trail junction, then the last 0.5 miles to North Tripyramid. Down the Scaur Ridge Trail for 0.8 miles, down Pine Bend Brook Trail for 3.2 miles, then along the Kancamagus Highway for the final 1.0 miles back to my car. I voted this morning, and I had to be back in Manchester-by-the-Sea for a School Committee meeting, so I was VERY PURPOSEFUL today - I covered 12.75 miles in 5 hours 20 minutes. I covered about 5,400 feet in climbing elevation (2700 up and then back down):

Just 0.3 miles up the flat Sabbaday Brook Trail is Sabbaday Falls, with a beautiful pool:

Sabbaday Brook is beautiful:

The trail got a little confusing - can you spot the yellow blaze:

The "rain forest" aspect of these northern woods is interesting - I thought moss grew on the north side of trees!! (well, on maps, "north" is up, so if the moss is on the "up" side of the tree ...)

These mountains demand RESPECT (as Aretha would say "R-E-S-P-E-C-T"). This is looking almost straight up:

The view looking northeast - that's Church Pond in the middle

which is the same area viewed from the north side of Mount Passaconaway (see blog for 8/21/2014):

The forest was beautiful heading down Pine Bend Brook Trail:

Say Goodbye to the Sandwich Range Wilderness:

And this is how Pine Bend Brook Trail meets the Kancamagus Highway - not a lot of parking space!

Two final views from the Kancamagus Highway:

and that's all for today! Thank you God for a GREAT DAY!

We spoke with Deede Dixon this evening - they are staying in a Fire House in Hickory, North Carolina (having previously been through Greenville, Durham, and Winston-Salem). Here is the Facebook page for their bike ride https://www.facebook.com/bike3000 and their website http://bike3000.weebly.com/
Aren't they going to have a fun adventure!!
